UNIT 29: Assignment 2- Plan A Music Video

Originate Ideas
1. We have chosen to use the music track 'For Free' by DJ Khaled ft Drake. This single was released in June 17 2016 and has sold over 500,000 copies to this day. The song is about DJ Khaled and Drake's love for sex. Within the song, they play the idea on men and women paying for sex. In the song it is clear that DJ Khaled is self-obsessed and thinks all women love him and would do anything for him. 'For Free' is filled with loads of confident bragging and naughtiness by Drake boosting about DJ Khaled. It is an upbeat song which needs the perfect music video to emphasis the genius of the lyrics.

2. DJ Khaled's style is really unique and he has his own fashion sense, where as most hip hop artists follow the same style and wear similar clothes. He wears a lot of bling such as; rings, necklace, watch as well as accessories like belts, cigars, vodka etc. His most iconic and the items he is known for is his thick gold chain he wears around his neck, his gold watch and his massive gold ring. When DJ Khaled is performing, he is usually surrounded with women and girls as well as showing his wealth but wearing bling accessories and nice clothes. In most of his music videos he is seen smoking his cigar which is one of his common accessories.

Drake's style is shown though his music videos, as you see his as the 'cool boy', he is usually surrounded either by girls or by a sign of wealth such as; a car, a mansion, men wearing a lot of bling etc. The way Drake performs in most of his music videos, is by singing to the camera from different angles. He is in most of his music videos compared to other artists, where they aren't in their music videos. The common things that feature in one of his music videos are; alcohol, smoking, girls, sport cars, mansions, bling, jewellery. Both DJ Khaled and Drake have made a particular image for themselves which attracts people to watch their music videos. If people were looking at their music videos, they would instantly be able to tell it is a hip-hop music video due to the things that feature in them.

3. We want my music video to be a hip-hop music video because I like the vibe music videos within the hip-hop genre give off, as they are entertaining and stand out from other music videos. The aim for our music video is to portray a sense of wealth, as well as a sense of self-obsession because this is what the lyrics are about. To portray this we will be using two boys to sing the lyrics at the screen from different camera angles.

Research
1. The first location we are going to film our music video in is Brandon Foran's house in Northwood. We are using this location because his house is filled with empty white walls which are perfect for the atmosphere we want to create in our music video. This will be used to film DJ Khalid and Drake singing the song lyrics from different camera angles. Secondly, we want to film in the sensory room within JCoSS to create a party atmosphere with the lights. For all the locations we want to film in, we would ask for permission first because this is essential.

3. Selection of technical and performance crew
This is the list of people who are going to be involved in the making of our music video. They all have specific roles which all combine together to create the music video.
-Brandon Foran is going to be an actor, acting as Drake. His responsibility is portraying Drake. He will also closely work with the director and choreographers, Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter because they need to have good communication.
-Martin Wassmer is going to be another actor, he will be portraying the role of DJ Khalid. He will be working along side Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter who are the directors and choreographers.
-Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter are going to be the directors for the music video. They will be looking after things such as; scripts, location, costumers, storyboard, target audience, props, floor plan. They will be looking after everything within the music video to ensure its a successful music video. However, Olivia will be taking on specific roles as well as Morgan
-Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter will be joint producers because we will purchase everything we need  for the music video including props such as; jewellery, clothes etc.
-Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter will be both editing the music video although, we will be editing different parts of the music video depending on our abilities to use Final cut pro.

4. Team roles and responsibilities
-Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter are both filming the music video together, in order to make it the most successful it can be. Although, we will have specific scenes we will film individually in order to use our individual skills.
-Morgan Jays and Olivia Spalter are both going to edit the music video together, we will be giving both our input which is useful because there is two different opinions

5. Production organisation and schedule
-Sunday 5th January we will be starting to film the first 4 scenes of our music videos. We will be filming part of our music video in Brandon Foran's house. Our second location is going to be in JCoSS's sensory rooms which we will be filming the club scenes and Martin's lip synching scenes in. We aim to start at 12pm at Brandon's house where we will be filming Brandon lip synching the whole song through so that we have enough footage. We will be doing this twice in case any lip synching is off time and there are any problems with the camera.

Risk Description
Risk (1-5)
Prevention of the Risk
Water
3/5
Water becomes a hazard when it comes into contact with electrical equipment yet also could be hazards causing people to slip whilst on the set of the music video shooting. By preventing this, on set there will be a rule put into place explain that their should not be any water or liquid near any of the equipment due to this causing sparks and even fire.
Heights / Stairs
4/5
Within the house there are stairs leading upstairs, as the scene is downstairs not many of the crew and producers will be going upstairs, however they could go upstairs for costume changes meaning that there is a hazard of them tripping and falling down the stairs. However, this will be prevented due to the lack of people going upstairs, there should be a clear staircase to make sure there is nothing to trip on.
Public
2/5
Within this shoot we are filming in non public areas meaning that the public will not have any problems caused by our shoot, however if the location changes on the day for a technical reason, the public will need the consent for us to film within that area. Electrical equipment is going to be used within this shoot with camera, lighting and computers; this could be a hazard due to wires or electrical fuses.  In order to prevent this the wires will be put around the room meaning that no one will trip or fall due to the equipment around the set. No water will be near the electricity meaning that fuses will be safe from harm due to the water being strictly away from our equipment.
Open Flames
5/5
As this is within a house, the kitchen is very near to the room we have chosen to film in meaning the gas from the cooker, could potentially be of a fire risk for us. In order to prevent this, there is a fire extinguisher within the house; with fire blankets for the assistance if a fire were to occur.
Trip Hazard
4/5
On a set wires and equipment could be in the way and cause people and the set crew to fall, in order to prevent this risk form occurring would be to tap the wires securely down to the ground yet also around the room to ensure they are not of high level or sticking out, the equipment will be returned to their station and position after use to ensure than not one is able to fall over the equipment misplaced around the room. (This is the same for every room within this shoot). Within the sesory room, there are wires and stairs which could cause a trip hazard, however this will be prevented by the use of signs as reminders and the wires will be put away correctly and out of the participants way.

8. Permissions to Film
-In order to film legally and sufficiently, it is essential to make sure you gain the right permissions to film in order to make sure every has their right authority to make sure they are applicable and give their full consent to film. Within the permission to film it gives permission to film within the given chosen location due to the permission given by the home owner, yet also the personal rights to film which gives the consent that the actors know that the video includes their body, face and voice where this could be streamed and shown to others. Below are the copies of the permissions to film form, now this is complete we have the correct rights to film, within the right locations. As the location does not belong to us ourselves, permission is required as an essential piece of the permission to film.

Location Permission Form - Brandon Foran

Personal Rights to Film - Brandon Foran

Personal Rights to Film - Martin Wassmer
Location Permission - Androa Laurence

9. Clearances
-Clearances are permission processes which allow the streaming and the usage of pieces of music, when creating a music video it is essential to make sure you have the right permission to use a song in order to air. As my music video, is for a student course work benefit, this music video will not be uploaded publicly meaning that this video will not be able to be seen by the public eye, meaning that permission and clearances for this instance are not permitted due to the circumstances. However music videos which are streamed need the correct permission for their music videos to be uploaded and created legally.
-Within a real professional music video, copy right would need to be agreed and cleared by the copy right from the record label or owner of the song, this needs to be cleared in order to have the ability and legal rights to use that piece of music within the music video. Without this permission and clearance the music video would be created illegally with potential consequences which may follow to the misuse of the music. After the music is cleared, the music video needs to agree that it has received the correct copy right information and permission to stream to the public. For example if the music video was put onto YouTube, they would need to make sure and find out that the right copyright has been confirmed in order to upload for the public to watch.
