This is my resubmission for my Double Page Spread. I changed a lot of features to alter the look of the double page spread and to make it look more like a real magazine article.

UNIT 57: PHOTOGRAPHY Evaluation

Audience Feedback for my Documentary photo shoot

We were asked to plan and execute a photo-shoot for a documentary photographer. This included a lot of preparation, research and time to ensure they were the ideal and well planned images. Throughout, I was constantly thinking about Adriana’s style as I was trying to imitate her style. As well as this, I was constantly considering the composition, tone and colours of the images. Throughout this whole planning, capturing, editing and evaluating process I have gained a huge amount of knowledge which will aid me in future tasks I get asked to complete.

What went well
I think by creating a mood board for my photographer it really helped me understand and get more of a feel of what I will be recreating and interpreting. Furthermore, it gave me inspiration as I was really intrigued and eager to try out Adriana’s way of photographing. She takes a range of different photographs yet still using and incorporating her techniques into them all which makes it clear to see what she uses and what she does which made it easier for me. I feel from my audience  feedback, the construction of my images went fairly well, with a fairly high level of professionalism. I know this because 5 out of the 10 people I got feedback from rated my photos on “How professional do you think these photographs look” a 4 out of a possible 4. The remaining 5 people rated the images a 3 out of a possible 4, I was thrilled with this response as it means my images were considered having a high level of professionalism as my responses were consistent and weren’t scattered. Also, what I think went well was the emotion the photos gave off as the majority of people who gave me audience feedback answered happiness and brightness when answering the question ‘What emotion do you feel when looking through  these photos”. I am pleased with this because these were the emotions I was trying to accompany and for the audience to notice them proves that my thought process and planning was extremely successful.

Another aspect that went well is that my photos really reflected my photographer, Adriana Zehbrauskas, style and photographs. You can see this from my audience feedback where the majority of my feedback responded yes to the question “Do these images look similar to other documentary photographs you have seen?” which I am delighted about as this means my photographs look near professional standards which is what I wanted to achieve and are relatable to documentary photographers which was what I was aiming for. The compositions of my photographs were well planned out and extremely well assembled. Equally, the weather was effective whilst I was taking my photo-shoot as it did not rain, thunder or cause any sort of problem that would affect my photo-shoot. However, if this happened I had resolutions for all the problems that could potentially happen in my risk/hazard assessment.

Problems encountered
One problem I came across whilst processing my photoshoot was the weather. This had a huge impact in making my photographs perfect, however on the day of shooting the weather wasn’t perfect, it was windy and near to raining therefore this affected my photographs because the lighting was dull and less bright as I wanted and expected. I took this into consideration when shooting for when I edit my photographs on Photoshop. To ensure this didn't happen I should've checked the weather forecast to ensure that it wasn't raining or going to be bad weather on the way I wanted to shoot. If I had to do this again, I would keep that in mind to make sure I do that next time. Another problem I encountered, was that I wasn't as creative as I could have been with my photographs and I wished I would have taken my photographs in a different location which had more variety of nature e.g. flowers, leaves etc. This would’ve make the photographs look more brighter and vibrant which is what Adriana Zehbrauskas style is like. Additionally, since I was working with nature obviously nature is natural thus I couldn't control what was happening or what they did. As a result of this some of my photographs came out blurry and unclear so if I was to do this photoshoot again there isn't anything I could do to stop this or assure it not happening which I took into regards. Additionally, another aspect I think that didn't go well was the level of professionalism my photographs were. I can see this from my audience feedback when the majority of them answered 3 out of a possible 4 being very professional. I was expecting to get all 4’s because I hoped they were at a very high level of professionalism. However, my audience disagreed and I think this was due to the fact my photographs were too basic and didn't have a clear enough storyline to them, if I was to do this photoshoot again I would take all my downfalls into consideration and change them to make sure they were perfect.

Technical aspects and their effect on my work
As I was using the school equipment, I had to be extremely careful with the equipment I borrowed e.g. the camera, tripod, memory card and made sure it was all safe and wasn't exposed to hazards or any problems. Obviously I cannot control how the camera takes a photo because its technology and out of my control to change the shutter speed and aperture setting, yet what I could do is alter the focal length. However, all these settings combined created natural, clear photographs perfected for my photoshoot which imitated Adriana’s style of photographing documentary photographs. Altering those setting helped me to capture more in detail Adriana Zehbrauska’s style and the way in which she shoots. It allowed me to focus specifically on getting my photos to look like the way Adriana’s professional photographs do. Another aspect which contributed my photo’s was the lighting and how the lighting made a different piece of nature in the different areas. When taking my photos I constantly was using the rule of third to help me arrange and place my observations into the lenses as ideal as I could. When it came to editing my photos on photoshop, I had a high level of confidence as I have a wast knowledge of how photoshop works and how to use the great deal of tools and filters on it. Photoshop really made the big difference to my photographs as they drastically changed the filter on the photo and I used various different tools on photoshop such as the clone stamp tool and the sharpen tool to specifically sharper or enhance bits of the photo to create a main focus which would stand out of the photograph. Along with changing the vibrance, saturation, brightness, contrast etc and these really refined my images. I hope that all these settings, filters and editors made my images the aesthetic of Adriana Zehbrauska’s photographs
